On Jimmy Carter and Christianity

Jimmy Carter died aged 100 a few days ago. Many remember him for his kind and humanitarian persona while others focus on his failed presidency.

Because of his personality, many people look at him as a “perfect” example of what a Christian should be.

Some (even supposed “Christians”) use Jimmy Carter as a reason for why Christians should support social issues like same-sex marriage.

They are all fundamentally wrong. Ultimately, they should base their understanding on what the Bible says about these issues. I’m certainly not questioning Jimmy’s faith but, like all of mankind, he is fundamentally flawed and is a sinner like the rest of us. We are saved by grace.
