Thinking about God as Father

At our weekly church Bible study yesterday, we were talking about the line “Our Father” from the start of the Lord’s Prayer - a particular emphasis on the word “Father” is used here.

Our idea of what a father is like can vary depending on our personal experiences and upbringing. Personally, I have always found this hard. I find it easier to think of God as King and ruler over all the universe, as opposed to a Father.

But, a few comments made by others yesterday really got me thinking about things differently when thinking about the attributes of a father. Firstly, a father represents a parament relationship. Just like with our heavenly Father, this relationship will forever hold. It will never weaken over time, as God loves us. Secondly, we (the Church) are an orphanage, and God acts as a father (and is the Father) as he has adopted us into His big family.

It is amazing that we get to call the creator of all things both Father and King!
