I’m not a Canadian, but I can’t help but fell a sense of relief for the Canadian people at the news of PM Justin Trudeau’s departure. I’m sure he is a nice guy and decent person, but one thing for sure is that is we have learnt anything from the past 9 years, it is that he is a terrible prime minister and a bad leader. He’s certainly not the statesman like his father.
So when I see people getting upset about him leaving on my Bluesky feed, I have to question why. Surly, it can’t be because of his sound economic and domestic polices, right?!?! That is sarcasm, of course. It because people see him as a progressive and an advocate for many social issues such as the LGBT movement. Some may even take things a step further and describe him as ‘woke’.
Either way, I can’t help but feel that he has the wrong agenda. To me, this is no way to run the country - no matter how inclusive or friendly his policies may be. Letting issues such as inflation, immigration and housing spiral out of control is no way to run a country.
With the Conservative opposition party ahead in literally every poll for the past 24 months or so, it looks like Canada wants a fresh start and a new government for 2025. This certainly looks likely given that their next election is due in the second half of this year, or possible even sooner.
